The Calvary in Rožňava – with its Baroque top chapel is the oldest monument of its kind in the whole territory of Gemer. It was built on the initiative of the Jesuits. The first building was Baroque and had seven stop chapels and the top Church of the Sorrowful Mother with a bell tower and a brick fence. In the 1930s, 14 new stops with colorful majolica reliefs were built, while the original chapels, which were already in a very poor condition, completely disappeared. Today there are 12 stops, 2 were demolished during the construction of the observatory.
